INDORE FOOD BLOGGERS MEET 2015
This was one lifetime of an experience!
I’ll call it my first stepping stone into the world of FOOD, Thanks to Indori Zayka.
For those who do not belong to Indore lemme tell you, Indori zayka’s aim is to make Indore the “food capital” And it’s been organizing a number of events in the past few years!
One such event was this ammaazziingg FOOD BLOGGERS MEET’15 set up at Vidorra- the terrace tavern
For the venue I’d say, there could be no better place -in terms of food, ambience service and location.
Check out the viieewww
The interiors are marvellous! This place is meant for fine dining.
And when I say “fine dining” I mean it!
Just visit this place either for lunch or dinner (because its beautiful at any given time) sit back, devour the delicacies and have a GREAT TIME!
Some fancy, fine dining restaurants do NOT care about the quality and variety of food, such is not the case with vidorra!
You’ll see why ;-)
We were first served the soups!
Sop Malay Veg Soup (right)
The best thing about this soup was, it actually worked as an appetizer, Light, Fresh and flavorful. A Malaysian soup in the menu proved to be a successful change.
Chicken Coriander Thick soup (left)
Though the flavours of coriander and chicken distinctly stood out . For me, Minced chicken was a put off. Shredded chicken could have enhanced the whole thing.
Next came the fish kebab, minced fish with arabic powdered spices and a hint of turmeric. The fish, sure did have mild spices and velvety texture. What i personally didn’t like was that egg dominated the taste of the kabab. the orange reduction accompaniment was complimenting the whole thing.
Next is Murg Lahori Tikka (Pakistani) & Goong Phad Kapparo (Thai) Best of both Worlds. Eh? :-D
Murg Lahori Tikka
Lahori Tikka’s given description does complete justice to the dish – Boneless chicken thigh marinated in brown poppy seeds & spicy lahori masala.
Goong Phad Kapparo
Stir fried prawns with chilli basil & lemon. Good! could’ve been better. The chef outdid himself with the variety of dips <3
I simply love how each dip was given importance and served separately and NOT simply as dips. (since it was a testing menu) Hummus was highly disappointing though, too much tahini and slightly undercooked chickpeas ruined it! the mustard dip, pesto & honey-chilli dips on the other hand were OUTSTANDING!
A special mention for the ever so courteous and ‘knowledgeable’ staff at Vidorra! _/\_ commendable!! AND our host & dost. Chef Lucky was happy to answer all our doubts. He also shared a few of his tips and experiences, which made the whole event all the more memorable and informative.
continuing with the starters,
Sultani Samandar ka Tikka (Goan) Two words- melt in the mouth and right amount of smoky!
here comes my favorite!!
Crispy Lettuce Wrap- juicy mix of water chestnuts, corn mushrooms and finely chopped fruit on a bed of thin fried noodles and iceberg lettuce (mouth watering already)-Look at me gorging over this irresistible crispy, juicy treat! finger lickin good it is ;-)
I am a GARLIC LOYALIST and this “cottage cheese in shangsi pepper” made me drooooll. Perfect flavour of burnt garlic with the ever so soft, crisp coated cottage cheese is to die for!
Cottage Cheese n Pineapple Salad– If you ask a chef, what the DEADLIEST fusion combination can be? He’ll agree with me on “Cottage Cheese and Pineapple” This chilled, one of a kind salad was pure delight *highly recommended* (pic below)
Chicken Pate Salad- One of the moosst beautifully presented dish-Chicken pate flavored mildly, with a carrot in the center, wrapped in cabbage & steamed. Making it all the more tempting. carrot was overcooked, resulting in a mushy center. It was a tad bit bland for my taste
Cheese Onion Chilli Seekh Kebab- for a seekh, it was well cooked on coal, but trying to figure out the “cheese” taste in it was a big task for me. Also there was a binding agent, which was totally raw and invaded rest of the flavors
Chau Toriyana Tikka- I am NOT a mushroom lover. But this Himachali Tikka was soo well marinated with the best balance of aromatic spices, stuffed cheese, & mustard that it successfully converted me into one!
and here comes the HERO of the lunch…. MUTTON KA PANJA this one was unanimously praised! In my family, they make this ‘lagan seekh’ which has a similar preparation to that of this mutton panja. (minced mutton+indian spices *masaleydar*+ egg to bind it all) But this was way more flavorful and intently prepared. Needless to say, it was polished off the plate! It leaves you craving for more
What topped the main-course for me was Bhuna-Paneer E-Kazambo (from Kerala)it tasted as good as it looks! roasted paneer added extra oomph to the delicious gravy. Spot on! Flawless. Vegans, if you wanna try something paneer, awesome, but not North Indian, go for this!
Mutton Bhutti ka Neelgiri - To me, this tasted like the regular hare masale ka gosht we cook at home, the ribs were double cooked, taste.. overall was good. but after the Paneer-E-Kazambo, this seemed mediocre.
Reasons to visit Vidorra:- Mesmerizing rooftop view, hospitality, ambience, Mutton, Mocktail & everything Thai ;-)
The showstopper for maincourse is this Excellent combination of Kaeng-Kiew-Wahu Phak (Thai) & Nasi Goreng Istimewa (Indonesian)Curry and coconut flavored fried rice, topped with an egg and served with sides of chicken sticks(which really were’nt required) The rice was outstanding, and when you team it up with the green curry, you are transferred to the other World! The curry had the best choice of vegetables, complimenting eachother, along with leek, young aubergines & thai herbs. This was total comfort food, after the spicy stuff.
As I mentioned above, one of the reasons to visit Vidorra is the tempting range of Mocktails.. which are a total work of art! ranging from fruit flavours to chocolate and icecream, they have it all! Caribbean fusion, the most vibrant one (tricolored) was my favorite-a party for all senses. Cranberry could’ve made it up to the top too, if flavoring wasn’t used so sparingly!
“Dessert is probably the most important stage of the meal, since it will be the last thing your guests remember before they pass out all over the table”- William Powell
Vidorra and Indori Zayka made sure it happened :-D
For desserts we had, Coconuts pancake-with the first bite… the world came to an end! who would have expected to have a surprise inside a pancake? EXCELLENT TASTE, just the right amount of sweet and hot. Though it wasn’t much of a pancake according to me. fluffy-No. Light-No. Crispy-yes! It did make up for a unique dessert though. Drenched in syrup.. slurp slurp!
Hot chocolate roll with Vanilla icecream- Fire and ice! opposites attract! yes this was one such dessert. Hot, chocolate n cashew filled rolls teamed with vanilla ice-cream. 10l10. “IF” the rolls were crispy, and had less layers (they made it chewy).
We sat there eating, for over 4 hours :-O and enjoyed every minute of it! ^_^ . Great company of over 15 food fanatics <3. The idea of bringing together food bloggers of the city is something I appreciate a lot!
This gave me the “Sanjeev Kapoor feel” ^_^
Till next time, keep hogging ;-) 8-)
